WORK METHOD
Using a mobile cultivation system situated beneath nearly 40,000 square metres of glass, our 375,000 rose bushes together generate more than 10 million roses per year.
Our staff members cut the roses in the morning. Within ten minutes of cutting, our roses are turned into bouquets of flowers with matching features such as length, maturity and stem size using a line and a processing machine. The bouquets are then placed in water and transferred to the cooling facility by trolley.
The bushes continue to be taken care of once the cutting process is finished. Rose bushes live for six years on average but require good maintenance to live this long.
Pest control takes place in specially designed treatment corridors to avoid any contact between staff and pesticides. This is enabled by the mobility of the system and its location, the far end of the greenhouse. We work with natural pesticides wherever possible: organic methods are used to reduce chemical pest control to a minimum.
In the afternoon we prepare the trolleys for auction. Our roses are transferred by cooled transport to various Flora Holland locations, including Aalsmeer, Naaldwijk, Rijnsburg en Bleiswijk.
The actual auction takes place the day after, when buyers and exporters allocate the flowers nationally and internationally.
This is how our roses find their way to living rooms all over the world.
